Our school – a centre of competence
The commercial school is situated on a campus together with the technical school and the school of home economics and agriculture, about 3 km away from the city centre of Göppingen.
According to our mission statement we consider our school to be a centre of competence which performs the task of educating students towards independent learning.
"The distinct image of the commercial school is based on vocational qualifications, especially by teaching basic job-related knowledge and key qualifications in all school types. The aim of the commercial school is to enable students to take part in a liberal-minded society with self-responsibility in their professional and private lives and to actively create these areas. Thus, the educational focus is put on the promotion of economic, social, linguistic and intercultural competence."
We offer a wide variety of educational opportunities to our students.
115 teachers work with 2000 students. About half of our students attend the part time commercial vocational school. They serve an apprenticeship and come to school as part-time students just for one and a half days per week or in blocks of several weeks.The other students are full-time students frequenting eight different types of school including a vocational college.
As foreign languages we offer English, Spanish, French and Italian. We have contacts to schools in Foggia/Italy, Naestved/Denmark, Manresa/Spain, Lublin/Poland, Tampere/Finland, Saverne/France and Brugge/Belgie.
Within the framework of the European Programmes we were doing a Comenius project on quality management at schools. An actual Leonardo Programme Partnership is doing with the obove partners. Further projects as Leonardo Mobility and Comenis Partnership are planned for this year.
We are the first commercial vocational school in Baden-Württemberg to be evaluated externally by the regional Board of School Development. Furthermore we are a support point for other vocational schools for Quality management in OES.
Since 2004/05 our school has been recognised as a Cisco Networking Academy. Two members of staff have been trained as a Cisco Networking instructors within the “Networking Initiative in Education”.
Our students’ training and junior firm take advantage of a training office with state-of-the-art equipment.
Our classrooms are equipped with modern media (VCRs, PCs, overhead projectors etc.). They are all networked and thus provide access to the internet – sometimes even of wireless. Multimedia are used in different subjects such as data or word processing and can be made use of in all the classrooms as well as in ten special rooms (e.g. biology, chemistry rooms) with more than 240“workplaces” for students.
In addition to the regular lessons the students can go online in our internet café. We provide well equipped classrooms for the subjects like Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Music and Creative Arts. Our gym is large and airy and so are our outdoor sports facilities.
The whole school building is decorated with precious steel sculptures and paintings of contemporary art. In the basement you can find a selection of historical typewriters which is certainly unique in Germany. On the first floor students can visit a permanent exhibition on present world religions.
Our centrally located school Context.Scope.Library is excellent and very popular with both students and teachers. On campus, we also provide a cafeteria, which is open all day, and a refectory for lunch which offers a choice of 2 different dishes every day.
